Hardware and software skills
According to Tanenbaum and Bos (2014), hardware "is the physical part of a computer system that consists of electronic and mechanical components" (p. 4). Hardware is distinct from software, which refers to the programs and data that run on the hardware.

A computer system's software consists of a set of instructions or programmes that are intended to run, control, or carry out particular tasks. A compiler or interpreter converts these instructions from their original high-level programming language into machine language.
