software(overview)

                                                          Software

"Software is a set of programs (sequence of instruction) that allows the users to perform a well- defined function or some specified task."

Software is in charge of controlling all computer-related equipment and advising them on what and how to do the work. However, the software is written in the binary language (ones and zeros), and developing the binary code would be a difficult and arduous operation for a programmer. As a result, software developers construct the software program in human-readable languages such as Java, Python, C#, and so on, and then use the source code.

There are different types of software available in the market. They are broadly divided into two categories.

1. System software: System software is a computer program that assists the user in running computer hardware or software and regulates their interaction. It is essentially software that always runs in the background of a computer, sustaining the computer hardware and basic functionality such as the operating system, utility applications, and interface. In layman's words, the system functions as a go-between, checking and facilitating processes between the user and the computer hardware.

Furthermore, the system software are classified into

a. Operating system software: The examples of operating software are Microsoft, Android, Apple iOS, and Linus.

b. Utility software: Examples of Utility software are Norton and McAfee antiviruses, WinRAR, and WinZip.

c. Firmware: Computer peripherals, Embedded systems, and BIOS are examples of Firmware.

2. Application software: End-user computer programs known as application programs or software applications are designed to give specific functionality to the user. The application programs help the user with a variety of tasks such as conducting online research, taking notes, designing graphics, managing funds, watching a movie, producing documents, playing games, and many more. As a result, many software programs are produced and developed by corporations each year in response to the demand and requirements of potential consumers. The application software might be general-purpose or specifically programmed to meet the needs of corporate collaboration.

furthermore, application software is classified into:

a. Word processing software: Examples of word-processing software are Ms-word, Google Docs, and Corel WordPerfect.

b. Database software: Oracle, MS Access, and MySQL are examples of Database software.

c. Multimedia software: Adobe Photoshop, windows media player are examples of multimedia software.

Hence, the software is a set of instructions that are used to perform specific tasks and is basically a general term to refer to applications and programs.
